sps corals in my tanks.

Post  liquidg on 4th April 2016, 1:59 pm

The first pic is of this sexual reproduction result from the same species I gave away nearly two years back.
This one showed as just a speck not long after I gave the other away.
This is from just over a year back with the area a mess a round it.

This is in March 2016 with mess removed and the coral being a stag species becoming a stag again, but looks like it is giving me the finger, lol

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This sps is so happy it is showing its pink bits in 2015, its only been in since late 1014!

The same coral in 2016 showing heaps of polyps

Morph has a morh, lol

Post  liquidg on 4th April 2016, 2:14 pm

The first pic is of the way the purple/blue morph was annoying my acan, so I cut it to kill the morph, the bit that was near cut off let go and became one on its own. I know via Asexual means the morphs are easy to have multiply, but that was not my intension this time!

The new morph healed and looking for an acan to annoy, lol

Leandrites shrimp in breeding tub, large female showing she is boss!

Post  liquidg on 26th April 2016, 12:32 pm

This tub has one dominant female, two sub females and 9 males.
All females are carrying either youngsters or eggs.
The claws together and dancing, is the females warning to the camera, get lost, lol
In time she will come to except tank life and except her counterparts more so and her and the others will swarm onto my hand to clean.

It acts a little different.

6-9-16

My reef aquarium algae

Post  liquidg on 3rd August 2016, 1:20 pm

To the best if my knowledge this exact haly form is like the Caloundra abalone and a certain dotty back, near only found on the sunny coast
Last year when the heat set in around November, all my Halymenia croaked, well I thought it croaked and then some came back once it cooled.
So I thought what I saw was it, I put in a couple of specific urchin species to knock over some annoying algae, they did just that but also exposed an experiment I tried last year at propagating Halymenia, that I thought failed?
It worked before, but this time it didnít?
I did it near the same as I do begonias with the leaves, but marine orientated of course and I though it was working, but it all died late last year.
I always thought it reactivates, but after six months I had given up on it, now the urchins uncovered those two spots of what is success!
The propagating worked beautifully with just the leaves making them blister with lots of manipulation.
This was it in October last year, the following pic is the once lush section on the right after it all disappeared, to coming back.

Back from the dead up comes the new growth.

Bottom tank haly starting up.

Dictyota making a come back as of 19-9-16

An algae species I thought was a pink version of hypnea is doing really well.

Ulva for my reef tank.

Post  liquidg on 5th August 2016, 1:49 pm

More healthy food for my reef pets.
I went and got a heap of ulva of both Enteromorpha and lactuca, mmmm tasty as well, lol, i got enough for around 6 months in the freezer.
With the cool water at the moment, the ulva is powering every where.
Much better then nori/sushi wrapp and more life in the tank likes it.
Got heaps

These two being Enteromorpha and lactuca are fav species

This lot for the freezer

Post  liquidg on 20th August 2016, 11:54 pm

a sheet ready to cut up

good micron this one, it is just a grade of wadding "which is filter wool" I prefer from spotlight

First piece cut and corners ready to glue with aquarium silicon

paper in place so the corner do not get attached the main section, silicon on an fold

three made up

just like a fitted sheet, onto the egg crate slide

Just like a sliding window, in goes a new slow flow barrier that I clean each day to second day with the hose spray.

in place helping to keep all rubbish from getting to external bip filter
