Star fruit or the actual name being Carambola

Post  liquidg on 22nd April 2017, 1:19 am

This unusual fruit is from the Averrhoa carambola tree.
They are grown here in auz in small numbers making the fruit not real cheap but originally it is thought to be from Sri Lanka.
The trees are found in many countries these days, more so from India to Vietnam and most island nations towards auz.
The fruit are of a very low GI making them great for diabetics, the highest content of vitamin C off all fruits, packed with beneficial fibre making them also great for reducing cholesterol and being of abundant antioxidants, they are a true super fruit!
These are a few of the ones I regularly get off a friends tree.

You can cut them open or eat just like an apple, they do look a little strange and feel smooth and semi waxy skinned, but with one bite you will most likely find, mmmm nice!!!
