Very good conditions finaly, the water was -23c, vis-5 metres on top 10 to 12 under and very calm water, over all a very nice morning in the big blue and it was blue this time not brown like some other times of late.

There were heaps of shrimp and especialy the local tangs, schools of them, heaps of huge flat head, bream, whiting, pipe fish and mullet, lots of life to get you moving, whether it was to chase something for the aquarium or to get you down there to clear up for your self,is that a small jewfish, the whiting were that big!

we got in around 6.45 and these are the pics at this stage, some underwater ones will be added later on.

A bit dark at 5 am.

How do you mean?

Do you think they won't like the sound of 23 degrees at the moment,it's just nice and brisk at that temp, keeps you moving?

The south east has temperate and tropical waters meeting in this area, which makes it very special!!!!!

The water used to always get down to 16 degrees in august/september and up to as high as 31 degrees in the surface to 40 feet in summer,it will hover at roughly 24 to 26,some times higher sometimes lower in most summers from january to march.

Thermoclines at 50 to 70 feet get down as low as 13 degrees all year round, thats the way the waters around the islands here do their bit every year!Well for the thirty plus years around here i have been paying attention any way,

I think Pisces was talking about the -23 degrees in the top insert Laughing

If it ever gets that cold you wouldn't get me in there with a heated wetsuit lol!

Looked like a fun trip.

Oh I see, you know there were three folks on face book last night, one from Italy, one from the states and one from Tassy,(obviously they would know) that have seen the thread and nothing except positive feed back ,no one mentioned whether it was in Celsius or not, I think a lot realise we work out our temps In that way.

Pisces why is it s guessing game, just say maybe it should be shown with a c after it, I would never have thought of it as I have never had any kind of feed back about any one questioning that aspect of it, even on other forums over seas or here, not even by the ultimate smart ---es on (that) forum.

Pretty soon others that are far worse than me will be taking a greater role in admin so they need support, not question and answer time.

Danny got the big one i got the small one.

Every trip we have been on as a club there is virtually always a pair somewhere on the swim, they are extremely common but when you get over head of them they duck for cover, the same as the yellow headed sleepers of which last season were everywhere.

They have their borrow on the sand at the edge of the widest and flattest rock(having less chance of sinking for safely digging under it and potentially larger home under it as well) there at the time going under it at the bottom of a reef or rock formation, rarely in any less than 10 feet of water, normally 10 to 25 in depth that are most common as the predators are less common in the shallows.

When swimming along you either look ahead to spot them or look behind as they come out once you pass.

There are always several pairs where we are going next weekend if the commercial guys have not got all of them as they are rareish but popular in the shops.

Keep your eyes open for them as neither Danny nor myself need any more so we won't bother with them.

There was a pair of them gotten, just the big one is in the pic.

One of the guys on face book showed me a pic of him and his mates and the diving they do, it was some guys standing around a hut on a frozen lake in Canada showing off their dry suits.
One of the guys on an American forum showed me some pics of the diving on masses of logs and wrecks in a lake that is frozen over in North America.
The water was incredibly clear but the wrecks photos looked so eerie under the ice, eerrr.
I will pm you the rest of it.

Doesn't sound like them, these live over sand/or other fine fine stuff to gill siv.
I am not totaly sure as i don't know if they were over substrate or not,if they were on rocks up off the bottom it wasn't them.
There are heaps of different blennies around,it was maybe a blennie and not one of these bared gobies.

If the collectors have not gotten most of them you will find one, you'll be right, work hard at it and concentrate and you will be laughing.
You have the young lungs i don't have, anyway colin has his super net made up if you couldn't be bothered chasing one.

Concentration and look for any variation in colour, texture and any form of movement, work at it.
Oh and your chances would increase a great deal with the new netting.
