This was the first club trip for the new season. The water had finally warmed up enough to thaw the club members out of the winter chill.
The day was overcast but pleasant and no wind. The tide was going low and reduced the visibility. It was still nice to get back into the water after so long. The coral was not as good as previous dives and there was more green algae than usual. The fish life was less diverse than before and could have been effected by the fresh water runoff.
There were plenty of Blennys and Pufferfish, they seemed to be everywhere especially Valentini Puffers.
This was an interesting place to dive with Stingrays, Cuttlefish, Dog-shark and Wobbegongs. The most unusual underwater encounter was a Cormorant diving pass as it hunted small fish, then it floated around us, before flying over to the rocks to dry off.
It was an early start and a full day, by the time we were heading home everyone was ready for an early night.

There were small cuttlefish busy mating and didn't seem to worry about us.

It was good to finally get back into the water.
Normally I would have been scuba diving during winter out at Flinders and on the Brisbane, but for some reason this year either the weather was crap or I was working.
I was having withdraw symptoms, so it was good the club has got back into the water for a snorkel.
Besides the cuttlefish we had curious little stingrays hanging around. Of course when I took my camera instead of the net, the stingrays were nowhere to be seen.
The same thing happened to me when I was doing my advanced training. I left the camera on the boat and during the dive I had a large turtle swim right at me, then at the last moment it glided over my head.
Everyone thought it was going to take me out, would have been a great photo. Sad
