hi guys im kind of wondering whats happening with this coral,

it seems to have developed a hole in the middle of it and some of the polops dont seem to be fully extended,

the tank parameters are really good at the moment, im running it at 1.024 salinity there is no trace of phosphates and the nitrates are less than 5ppm

the calcium is over 460 and the karbonate hardness is up around 10

thanks in advance once again to all your gurus out there!

Hi callum, being that all corals and anemones are the same, originaly, just one evolved a skeleton, I would say it is a central mouth.

I will ask Kit to advise you, I don’t keep those types of corals, I like the acropora variations.

Good photo!

Yes it is the corals mouth. It's likely wanting food (or expelling waste) if it stays like that for more then a couple of days then time to look into possible issues.

That would be fine liquid g!! I'm happy I can give something back to a forum I've already learnt so much from

By the way guys do you guys put the pippetes right into the corals mouth to breed it or just squirt food at it from a few inches away

Just about to touch the corals/anemones extensions, say 10 mil off it and the current from the tube, if you use that way, should be smooth not strong and abrupt and it will not react badly and retract.

I use these days a few old sugar less (sugar substitute) squeeze bottles with the food in them for all the feeding types now.

I make up four and freeze the bottles ready for the next one to be thawed out.

I have used the squeeze bottle with one of my transporting air lines for the battery air pump for the buckets to aerate on the way home after collecting.

I just fit the air line over the squeeze bottle once the air line is full of water hanging over the anemone, my air lines don’t have air stones on them, just a silicon sealed sinker attached to the end of it to not let it float up or let the toxins from corroding lead into the water or bucket and cause no stress to the air pump by no air stone.

I hang it over the anemone and squeeze until the food comes out over the anemone/coral and its got its tucker for the day, lol.

Oh and goniopora feeds well this way also.
