What fish to add?

Hey All,

I'm trying to determine a compatible fish list to stock my 5 x 2 x 2.5 tank. My current stock low with only 1 x yellow tang, 1 x blue tang, 2 x percula clowns and a lawnmower blenny. CUC consists of a strombus, trochus and a few turbo snails. A couple of small urchins and I know there is a couple of pistol shrimps in there too. Id like to add some more fish but i am unsure what I should put in? I do like my tangs, but i dont know how many i should be putting in a 5ft, I know they will grow!

Also i have quite a few LPS and a couple of SPS corals.

Any one got any suggestions? i would like it to be a peaceful tank. I have heaps of free swimming space.

Nice mix dude,you should try a mandarin fish if your tank has been matured and to put with your sps,coral gobies are cool, one of my mates has an awesome sail fin tang they look good and has a blue tang with it, hope that helps.

Pyjama wrasse are one of my favourites and get on well with most tank life, the small wrasse rarely bother your clean up crew.

If you can keep up the feeds,anthias are a must for adding colour and basically do not bother any one.

I have had the serrancirrhitus latusa and at the moment I have a pseudanthias fasciatus,both are brilliant tank additions.

They feed easily,harm no one and stay out and show off their colours, both top fish, the best of the anthias for sure.

I would love a mandarin fish!, but i don't believe my tank is mature enough yet, only 9months old. Lots of pods in the sump but i dont see to many in the main display. I want to have the food to sustain one before i get one. I see too many horror stories of people buying them when the tank is unable to sustain them and the poor fish just dying.

I was also thinking a small school of a type of anthias, what size school do these to best with? They add a lot of colour and movement to the tank.

Dazza i do like the look of the yellow coral gobies, also the fire gobies look cool. Can you mix goby types?

Yep, that is my understanding as well. I'm not sure I would want to take the risk of getting one, then if i couldn't get it onto pellets, having to raise or buy pods to keep it alive. They sure are cool looking fish tho.

They are both cool dude,the fire goby is a nemateleotris and the coral goby is a gobiodon,get the fire goby,it can handle a lot more than the decora

Fire goby it is then, are these better in pairs?

Blue-lined rabbitfish is cool! I haven't seen one in a tank before. Are they common?

The fire goby are a nice fish and they don’t need to live in pairs,they hassle each other to some degree if there are more then one, not enough to worry about though.

The blue line rabbit fish/happy moment are quite common here in SEQ,they are intense grazers and grazers starve to death quite quickly if not supplied foods always. plant based foods, so have a bit of nori hanging around for them and all is good.

Make sure your waters are stable,stablilty of conditions and PH are every thing.

Thanks for the advice Liquidg. I always have nori on hand for my blue and yellow tangs, they love it! Ill add that rabbitfish to my fish list, you see the foxface one all the time but not the blue lined. I'm in no rush to get anything at the moment anyway, I just like to plan my future stock

Cool,plan ahead,that's the way!

When you add anything other then damsels (clowns are damsels) and gobies,etc, have a bit of fresh cunjevoi on hand to get them eating if they are fussy, the smell of it gets them interested nicely.

Cunje may affect your PH after 3 to 4 hours, it begins to rot from bacterial infestation very fast due to the high protein content of it.

Release the fish initially minutes before lights out if there are no anemones or elegant corals in the tank, this gets them to bed together before any one overly picks on them.

When they awaken together (fish don’t sleep) they accept each other far better, they sought of reset territories a little as they remain as still as possible scared shitless while the lights are off as the night feeders rub up against them and so on, when they are all there when the lights come on, things are always different and more excepting after all that stress.
