Hi All,

Was chatting at the LFS and heard a discussion on some soft coral Xenia and Acropora's not being compatable ? I am interested to see if anyone here has any experiences good or bad

I am concerned as I have both in my tank - so good so far but it has only been a few weeks and I luuurv my Acro so dont want to upset them.... Wink Also any tips on getting the best out of the Acro's

Thanks

Cool

This can be something important to be aware of and it depends on the coral!
All softs are dodgy to hards, all large polyp, acans, brain coral in particular can be shits to small polyp types.
Xenia is cool and very resilient with most corals and get on with other corals that I have seen. Smile
There is a thread on here in the help section? On coral aggression, check it out,it’s helpful!
Dude most corals are territorial and use chemicals to kill off others to build up their food potential and area to expand on, you should see what a brain coral does to a stag acro when to close, the stingers reach out over an inch to kill it.
Some will reach across the tank to strike at another. Shocked
I hear algae with help protect your corals by syphoning off the chems they put out, mainly keep a current going to help protect you corals.
I like the monticulosa and the purple montipora, what species of acropora do you favour in the display tank?

Mate thats pretty apt advice, some corals do not play well with others, the ones you are speaking of in your display tank are no real issue to each other ignobolis.

But large polyp or extended polyp corals are a tough mob to be in with or more so to be near!

If they have large polyps like brain corals or others with quite obvious moving extensions, you mighht say, except for xenia its mostly harmless, but do not trust the others totaly!

Keep it simple and keep it local as you mostly do and you will be fine.
