t5/metal-hmm
Neither of them!
T2s are the way to go for now.
Intensity, slim, low power usage and spot on spectrum count.
Just ahead of LEDs.
The new stuff now is awesome.
MH are nearly dead.
I think so anyhow.

my turn
hi out put fluro bulb.
By your own battons and make the fitting your self.
Inexpensive and great for most systems.

Re: MH T5 combo's VS MH
Ok,
well i looked into T2's some time ago and the issue was finding a good quality readily available tube to go into it. and desipte all i have read i have never seen the same results as what MH produces.
I have two tanks one with T5's overdriven and one with plain MH, the MH's smash the T5's for coral growth and negligible heat difference when you have an open top hood, which i had to put in for my T5's anyway.
Myturn when you say Hioutput fluro are you talking about t5's, or Power Compacts?
Happy to keep the discussion going and i am considering all suggestions, so please do not be discouraged i am happy to be convinced of T2's or any other options.

lights
I like the t5s i had.
The life span of there quality is only 3 to 4 months and it showed a lot.
I had them on for up to 17 hours a day, most things did realy well.
I have t8s for the time being and they are keeping stags, plates and everything else really well!
It is shallow water though.
At what level you place your corals in your tank is more important than what light to use, sought of!
