How To Get POS Rabbitfish Out Of Fishtank?
Ok, so as the clubbies know, ive got a "Happy Moment" Rabbitfish in my tank. I put it in there not long after i started it and the minute it hit the water i knew i had f**ked up.
So, i've tried..
Net
Hook, Line and Sinker
Two Nets
Harpoon
After trying to harpoon it, i decided i'd just try and kill it. Which that failed too.
I'm at a complete loss. I need it out, dead or alive. Its ugly as a mofo and unfortunately it seems to evade capture / death rather well.
Annoyingly enough, my Barrier Reef Chromis (Chromis Nitida i think..) kept nibbling at the harpoon (RC Car antenna tube with a needle melted into one end of it. It was VERY secure though, well built) while the Rabbitfish kept bailing at the first sight of it. At least i know how to get the Chromis out. Bah!

rabbit fish
Now that is funny and i feel tired just thinking about it.
Here is an idea, get some wire and shape it with a bend to get into the spots where it goes to get it to come out and catch it or scewer it.
Nothing beats the yellow banded sumartra maroon i had a long time ago,it was so cunning,no way you could use a net on it,i tried for weeks so that i did not disturb the live rock and to no avail.
I used the wire and waited with the needle near where it would come out and got it!!
I got this fish out with the needle through it and it recovered really well and than started picking on the ones in the quarantine tank with it,after that i thought it was a shame it didn't die.
It went to some one elses tank for breeding,i never kept track of it,just glad the mungrel was out and not killing or stressing others to death,it was one of the first i had herd of back in the late eighties,i thought wow a yellow banded one.
Now it is ,BIG DEAL.
Deadsled,Did you line up the scewer from the top?,i hope!

Hahaha. I just came down after lights off for a few hours and had a bit of a harpoon session, with the lights off haha. It had no idea that the makeshift harpoon was in the tank, and i think i got it REALLY good. It bailed for now, nearly got it in the net but i'm a bit weary of this one, being poisonous and all. Its hiding for now, so when it comes back out (its still dark) i'll have another go.
I know it sounds rather cruel, but harpooning a pest fish and getting rid of it, as opposed to pulling the tank down or using a net and stressing all the other fish and corals.. this definately is the easier option. Plus, i don't feel like making my islands again.. after having to pull one down last week. Making islands out of live rock, with a big open area inside isn't exactly fun..

I would probably be stuck with it or get some one else to do that if it came down to it.
It does sought of sound funny who is the smartest there, the fish or the fish keeper

Heh, i'm not real keen on hurting them either but its gotta be done.
I'm definately smarter, they are pretty crafty though. I COULD drain the entire tank, but that'll possibly result in other fish or coral death, which i don't want.
