Australian Tangs / Surgeonfish
Now, before i get into detail.. Surgeonfish / Tangs are by far my favourite type of fish.. and their also the main kind of fish that i look out for when i'm snorkelling. Theres a few types where we usually go down the Gold Coast, and i desperately want them.. just to see what they look like in a tank.
As most who have been snorkelling would know, seeing something in a tank and seeing it while snorkelling there is a huge difference obviously, so i'm very keen to catch some different kinds of local tangs and be able to observe them.
Anyway.. i've just been googling Surgeonfish / Tangs, and more specifically.. Australian / Local varieties.
This is one that i came across.. An Eyestripe Surgeonfish / Arcanthurus Dussumieri. I want one, SO bad. This fish is unreal.
I'm guessing, other variations of the above..
This is a variation that is widely seen around the Gold Coast Seaway and Stradbroke Island. This is one of my three Arcanthurus Dussumieri Tangs. This one now resides in my 2ft tank, until it grows big enough then will be moved to either my current four foot or my other four foot tank that i'm yet to setup.
I've never seen one of these before, and its probably the most impressive i've seen. I found that we can also get locally:
Blue Tangs (Really, no need for a pic..)
Brown Tangs
Convict Tangs
Orange Spot Tangs / Olivaceus Tang / Orange Band Tang
Mimic Tangs
Sawtail Surgeonfish
Clown Tangs / Striped Surgeonfish (I want one bad. Might be the same species, or might not.. very similar).
Dark Surgeon
Ring Tailed Surgeon (Going by the picture, it looks very much like an adult of my Striated Kole Tang)
Bluespine Unicornfish (A type of Naso Tang)
Whitemargain Unicornfish (Also a Naso Tang)
Sailfin Tang
Striated Kole Tang (This is mine)
Purple Bristletooth Tang (No actual pictures that i've found on the net, other than this one.. of a purple bristletooth)
Will be updated when i find more information / catch new tangs that have yet to be documented thoroughly.
