Decomposition, the part of the cycle many reefers are not aware of!
When you do a water change, of to great an amount or a basic water change in a small aquarium, you throw these guys away!
They do recover their numbers, but initially this can cause a PH collapse and more!
I have read of many reefers mistakes due to not taking this seriously of late!
This is about the guys that are before the known cycle that are in your water and do not perform their duties on and in your rock!
First up it is the job heterotrophic bacteria that begin the decomposition of organic matter, as in things/life that are dead!
Once they do their bit its onto the actual cyclers to carry out the nitrogen cycle!
When doing a water change, as you do it, add some magnesium and calcium, these will buffer the potential PH collapse and save tank lives!
