Corals bleaching Empty Corals bleaching

The latest findings from scientists at Queensland university is the acidity building with in our oceans as a result of global warming is causing the reef building aspect of corals to literally starve.

The tests have concluded that the increasing carbon dioxides affects on photosynthetic capacity and subsequent photo protection are in decline as tested on acropora Formosa.

The results from extensive studies and the application of different levels of carbon dioxide on 12 colonies of Formosa corals were of serious concern as it reduced a key enzyme (phosphoglycolate phosphatase)

This they feel will render the corals susceptible to harmful solar radiation and due to the subsequent expulsion of zooxanthellae from the corals cells as low productivity continues will cause more frequent bleaching leading to coral starvation and the decline of our coral reefs.

This one fact found in our oceans gives a great deal of importance to high ph and excelent carbonate hardness to keep that ph up there 24 hours a day.
