Painted cray shedded shell.
When we are on our south east Queensland marine aquarium society collecting trips, seeing a perfect cray shell is quite common, even the very large crays do the same thing as the new body comes out between the carapace and the tail.
When many crustaceans shed their shell it comes off perfectly intact, right down to the hairs as it is with the rest of the crayfish including the eyes leaving all the originals behind.
The painted cray in the pic looks quite real and colourful, right?
In the hand and still looks good.
Crushed and nothing is in that shell after all, lol.
