Halymenia algae, a local red algae.

The marine red algae family is quite extensive, it also includes corallines.

These photos are some examples of the red algae called halymenia and at times, nicknamed dragons tongue or breathe.
This one is an endemic species to Queensland's sunshine coast found in waters from 15 to 35 feet of water and will die off leaving its base at a temp of 24c and return once temps go below this.

This algae can kill coral polyps if very close by or up against each other.

The first two pics are of a section of halymenia I call a blister or horticulturalists would call a bulb.
This can be made happen by sitting weights on sections of this plant in good flow, cool water and medium light strength.
