Broken split or kinked copper pipe repair, capping off.
Broken copper pipe capping off.
I did this up for a mate, being to far away to easily go around and help and thought it would share it with all.
First up, buy end cap and plumbers tape from a plumbing supply store like reece or on weekends from bunnings.
Tape
Fitting
Turn water to house off !
Cut pipe as close to split or break as possible.
Sand off the end to smooth with fine sand paper and never sand along pipe, always around the pipes end or it will not seal properly.
Clean pipe where fitting will go over it with plastic scourers and always around the pipe, not along it!
Tape on both areas.
Three layers only as you wrap tape around pipe or what ever.
This tape is not adhesive and is used for filling as it is compressed in joints or fittings and not for sticking/gluing in any way.
Tape on plastic washer on pipe side of it.
Cap off part slid onto the pipe first, then plastic washer forced on pipe.
Plastic washer slid back.
Fitting on.
Tighten while placing a little pressure onto pipe so fitting remains on pipe and not come off, maybe instead of adjustable spanner, using a socket set would be easier.
Turn water back on and check.
