Personaly i would not bother with this unless you have the timeand money!

The types of naturally ocuring zeolites used for this system are specifically chosen to accomplish reduction of certain toxins, but!

As with any semi to actually mechanical forms of filtration, you have to monitor, replace, clean or what ever,so you have lots of testing and monitoring and on going costs with regularly replacing the zeolite material.

KZ translates to Korallen-Zucht, a German manufacturer who brought to the hobby the ZEOvit system of products to try to achieve oligotrophic (extremely low nutrient) water parameters, primarily for the care of Small polyp species (sps) corals.

It is to be rememberd that soft corals in this type of system is not a good idea due to their toxic content.

Although it is possible that an aquarium using ZEOvit is very low in nutrients and these types of oligotrophic tanks actually have plenty of nutrients, but these are narrowly cycled within the tank.

Instead of having nutrients freely available in the water as phosphorus or nitrogen, a similar amount of nutrients is present as bacterioplankton which are a source of food for the corals but not for problem algaes or the zooxanthellae which can degrade coral colour.

The KZ system is very effective at encouraging SPS corals with brilliant and quite often, pastel colours, but the all this requires quite a bit of attention to detail and is not recommended for novice reef hobbyists.

Some elements of the KZ/ZEOvit system can be applied to other tanks, but all hobbyists considering this type of aquarium method are urged to do thorough research about the pros and cons of ZEOvit before trying it out.

Zeo uses a carbon type or a sirese of zeoliths to grow higher than usual levels of bacteria in the aquarium. The bacteria forces down both NO3 and phosphate to very low levels.
The bacteria is grown on zeolite rock in a reactor.
Ever so often you shake the rock dislodging the bacterial mulm,i think the word is,some of it is removed by your skimmer, some of it becomes coral food. Another part of zeo is the regular use of a amino acids.

Deep into the ZEOvit system are bacteria and bacteria foods used to aid in the lowering of nutrients while also being a provider of foods for corals.

Oh and there is zeolite in liquid form, this can be used to detox with in the human body, that sounds weird but it is true.

A pack of what makes up part the zeovit system.
