Hey,how you doing?
The fires down south,very bad!
It was major disaster as so many people were killed, millions of forms of wildlife died and so much vegetation was destroyed the place looks like a nuclear weapon has gone off down there.
Up here had it a bit bad with the cyclones and floods as well, but the stories from down south of how they lost loved ones by just minutes or even seconds.
Heaps died in there cars trying to get out as the fire was moving faster than the cars could go.
They used to sometimes have fire storms in the country where a mate grew up and there is no way to out run it, sometimes it would move as fast as 40 to 50 kilometres an hour, you would just try to hide in a hole or water and hold your breath as it sweeps over and hope for the best.
To stand up or hide in a structure in one of those things is death for sure.
Some of the stories of families losing there loved ones in a matter of seconds before they could get to them is so very sad, to watch them perish in front of you and there is nothing you can do for them.
But they are country folk and they are tough.
Most of these people didn’t have to die, there were a lot of mistakes made, not by them!!
One farmer cleared some trees and scrub from near his house ready for the next fire storm season and he was fined hundreds of thousands of dollars for doing this, the fire went around him and he and his house were fine.
He wants to sue the government for what has happened and he is right to do so, the green movement here has become a serious threat to people’s safety.
This country is going to have far worse than that in the future with climate change.
Down south had there first ever full on twister (tornado) recently, not good!!
The only thing really good here is the marine life is going nuts in abundance, huge number of fish life is building up here because of the ocean temp changes, it is getting very crowded out there.
Good to here from you vawn.

Bad weather
I live in an area that never snows but for the last 3 years in the spring we've been having progressively worsening snow storms. That's a bad decision though to put the wildlife ahead of the human life regardless of how special australias flora and fauna is

well said
It would be so easy for that situation to be fixed by the government to have allowed the clearing of trees that put people at risk.
If you cut down 4 you have to plant and mantain 4 somewhere else on your property and the environment and us all win.
It all seems to easy, but the law makers just dont get it and even though without the greenies the place would be a desert, there has to be common sense applied or every thing suffers!
when are you going to get a marine aquarium up and running vawn?lol.

cool
Vawn are you a pet shop owner or work in one?
There used to be a couple of ponds in the area i grew up in but they always had leeches in them.
Yuk,you would come out of the water and someone would scream at the sight of them on you.
I had one once that when it was pulled off, where it was, it bled for ages.
Two of us in the club come from the country and it makes for some interesting stories.
Leechers,eerrrrr,Horrible things!!

Kitty kitty
There's plenty of bird and associated north atlantic sea life where i am which is all quite cool but nothing special. The beast on bodmin was a panther, it was shot. 1960s had a fashion for keeping big cats as pets, the 70s say the introduction of the dangerous wild animals licence so nearly everyone ditched their animali. There where 2 in bodmin (vast open moorland up the road from me), 3 in wales and 4 in my area, west Cornwall. They are mostly lynx's and are thought to be breeding.

Cont!
They seem to travel the coast path route and this area is a peninsula that comes off moorland. There have been many sightings in this town of what is thought to be at least 2 puma/lynx and i've seen it, at night, down the end of an alley under a lamp. I thought it was a dog then i saw it's tail then ears then it least away. Very puma shaped. The local zoo has physical data for at least 3 cats.

cats
That is very interesting vawn!!
Do you think they are any threat to humans or do they leave the people alone?
They would take a few farm animals wouldnt they? or at least some pets?
Are there any pics of what the current big cats look like?
All we have here is a few stripped coastal pythens now and than and a few magpies and kooku burras that we give meat treats to in the afternoons on the back veranda.

Bad weather again
They eat mostly rabbits, fowl and a bit of fish and have been known to disagree with domestic cats. The research is done at newquay zoo Cornwall. We've gone from relatively warm mid winter to snowy late springs and there have been no reports for a couple of years now. I have a pic outta the paper of a teddy hoax that was funny as at the time reports where very frequent.
