I'm keen on going and collecting a hell of a lot of snails that i can use for a clean up crew for my tank, and while i have a good idea of a place to get them i'm unsure of which to look for in particular.

Anyone got any advice for me?

I need more clean up crew for my other tank.
Let's push for a collection trip at the next meeting.

Sounds good to me Ian! I know that Louis showed us some snails at our regular low tide collecting area last time he went with us, and said there were heaps of them but i'm not sure which ones are the ones to get Sad And its a shame because i'm around that area all the time now that my girlfriend lives there.

I really need more clean up crew.. maybe i'll just take her along and take a picture of what they look like Laughing

The LFS wanted an arm and a leg the first time i went to buy any clean up crew members.
Thats life in the country for you, well a little bit country Laughing .

Collecting Clean Up Crew Snails Empty snails

I’m also after some algae eating snails for my tank. What local species are the best? I’m after some from my local tide pools on the gold coast but I don’t want to get the carnivorous ones. My LFS has turbos of course but my daughter and I like searching for new critters in the pools.
Cheers

The best ways to get clean up crew snails is to get in at a high tide(watch the oysters) and look at the areas that were just out of the water at low tide, the oyster level, there you will find the snails dedicated to algae only.

There is a type that is a no, no for sure, this one has a spiralling patern, but the pattern is raised lumps as part of the spirals, don’t get them!!

Get the snails small and smooth shelled if possible.

cheers
