Snorkelling @ Mudjimba Island 19-8-12
Hi All,
Our first trip to Mudjimba Island this weekend, the water temp was 16 degree's but as we were wearing our neofleece steamers it wasn't a problem. The visibility was varied depending on the depth of the water and proximity to the rock structure, there was a surprising amount to see but not a lot of colour. Had a very exciting swim with a turtle and got some video footage with my new Gopro head mounted, it was my first time out with it and have to play a bit more to get the best results. At the moment I have to reduce the size so that I can post some vid's, I have ten good minutes but it is currently nearly 3gig.
Hope you enjoy the pic's

Is that the northern side or east?
Lots of great memories of the island from the seventies and eighties come to mind.
Looks to be similar vis to what we had, thanks for the thread mate.

Hi L,
It was mainly on the southern side with some time on the eastern side, the visibility was about 10m away from the rocks, the closer and shallower it got the worse the water looked.
Hi Ig,
It was great fun and close to home. Swimming with the turtle in my back yard was a bonus but I was surprised at the amount of fish there, it is a shame that they all seemed to be camouflaged to blend in with the rocks as it made them hard to pick out with the camera and video.
All in all a brilliant morning.

These are the best spots at Mudjimba isl.
The ( h ) is where you can paddle in on a surf ski or small boat and its relatively still in there, though it may be a small area its a great little free dive rock pool area.
The ( d ) on the north side is the area of crevices and drop offs.
The three ( ds ) are the boulder wall drop off,its from many of years pushing boulders that way with the surf.
The ( c ) is the most prolific coral area at the island, that’s if rains don’t wipe it out at all.
As you can see, corals in a bundance are nearly always on the protected part of any where in SEQ,from south easterly winds and swell.
