It is partly due to the caulerpa taxifolia thing!
They say that caulerpa taxifolia was introduced, not just to the Caribbean, but to the Mediterranean from hobbyists, it wasn’t!
A group here in aus of two marine biologist and a geneticist, way back proved that it is a mutation of our still water taxifolia example and near where my folks lived way back.
That’s where they first found it and surprise, not far from the opening to the ocean of the sewerage for that area.
Just out off that spot, ships wait for their turn to head into Moreton bay to get to Brisbane.
They don’t let out ballast there, they take on ballast there as they leave Moreton bay and around the world it went, in their ballast!
In the late 70s my brother and my mother found it 2 years before the specialist group found that mutation, he tried it as food for angel fish, to toxic!
